The 2021 Ram 1500 is an IIHS Top Safety Pick

How safe is the 2021 Ram 1500 pickup truck?

If you are a fan of pickup trucks, then chances are good you are already well aware of how impressive the Ram 1500 is. It’s one of the most popular trucks on the road today, and for good reason. It offers plenty in the way of power, payload, and towing, not to mention some of today’s finest technology features. But did you know it also excels in safety? Just how safe is the 2021 Ram 1500 pickup truck? Enough to be a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)! Read ahead for more details.

What made the 2021 1500 a Top Safety Pick

The Ram 1500 Crew Cab is actually the first and only pickup truck to receive this rating. This honor for the 2021 model applies to the Crew Cab versions that are equipped with the Advanced Safety Group. The IIHS is putting greater emphasis on safety and collision-avoidance technology, and vehicles that earn such ratings need to meet certain criteria with those features. The most recent expansion of this is the requirement for Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking.

In order to get this rating, the 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab had to be rated Good (out of Poor, Marginal, Acceptable, and Good) in the following crash test categories—small overlap front: driver-side; small overlap front: passenger-side; moderate overlap front; side; roof strength; and head restraints & seats. The 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab earned that Good rating for all categories. The truck also earned the necessary marks in its crash avoidance and mitigation technology.

The 2021 Ram 1500 has an available Advanced Safety Group package. This suite of smart safety tech includes Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Rear Cross Path Detection, Blind-Spot Monitoring with Trailer Coverage, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Go, and Hold.
